What does the word “Viking” really mean? How did they manage to get so far from their homeland? Were they as violent as described? All these questions, and more, will be answered in this unpretentious talk by Jordan Ruest and Lucie Leclerc-Côté, two well-established members of the Clan de l’Estuaire, a Viking re-enactment troupe based in Quebec City. They’ll introduce you to the captivating history of the Scandinavian peoples who lived over a thousand years ago and left their mark on our history in a very significant way. The main themes will be covered: the great Scandinavian kingdoms, migratory movements, the spirituality of the time, beliefs and the magic of the runes are just a few examples.
