Echoes from the North Seas
NORDRI
The Nordri neo-rad quartet is made up of violinists Anne-Hélène Chevrette and Sylvain Neault, guitarist David Jacques and bassist Ian Simpson. Since 2010, the band has been composing its own repertoire inspired by northern music (Scandinavian, Celtic and Québécois), as well as covering compositions by bands such as Frigg, Tsuumi sound System and Lúnasa. In October 2023, the group will release Echoes of the North Seas, its first opus of original compositions.
Nordri’s compositions are created by the two violinists behind the project. Anne-Hélène’s early music inspirations rub shoulders with Sylvain’s Balkan, jazz and trad Québécois influences. It was with a desire to invite and amalgamate these influences that the band embarked on the creation of their new album. The arrangements are the quartet’s own: the finesse of the baroque guitar’s exceptional sound, combined with the depth of the double bass, will transport you to a sumptuous banquet in a remote Swedish castle, while the next piece will take you back to the kitchen of a Québécois party.
It’s in these contrasting moods that the band transports you for the duration of a concert.
