CONFERENCE

Textile processing and history in the Viking era

By Maggie Lépine

In this lecture, you’ll learn about different tools and their historical background, as well as the main textile works of everyday Viking life. We’ll look at the importance of textile work in communities, the fibers used and some of the fabulous stories and interesting historical facts surrounding this work. We’ll see how the Scandinavians combined textiles and spirituality, and how this has been observed by the scientific community. This talk is brought to you by Maggie Lépine, of the Gwenwyvaar Artisane Textile project. Maggie has been a textile enthusiast for 14 years and a Viking-era reconstructionist for 8. Her work is based on the preservation of lesser-known textile techniques and the craftsman’s gesture.
