IRISH SOCCER

Irish soccer, also known as Gaelic soccer, is a traditional Irish sport that has been played for centuries. It is one of the Gaelic sports alongside hurling. The game combines elements of soccer and rugby, creating a unique and exciting style.

Irish soccer is played with a spherical leather ball. Players can kick, throw, dribble and carry the ball by hand. The goals resemble those of soccer, but points are scored by sending the ball between the top posts, above the crossbar. A successful shot between the posts is worth one point, while a goal under the crossbar and between the posts is worth three points.

The popularity of Irish soccer has been maintained over the years, largely thanks to its strong association with Irish culture and identity. Many amateur clubs and teams around the world, including Quebec, have embraced the sport for its uniqueness and rich history.

The Quebec City Amateur Irish Football Club, founded in 2006, was created to promote this Irish sporting tradition and bring together enthusiasts from all walks of life. The club’s men’s and women’s teams share this authentic sporting experience with a wide range of members, creating an engaged community.
